How Can severe Shin Pain Be Treated?

I have a elevation of bone on my shin just below the knee. It is really affecting my routine play and activities.. The problem had aroused nearly ten years back in both the legs but got subsided. But now the bone elevation is giving me pain. I was a professional sportsman.
